Never Forget Riddim leans into a grim, minor-key dancehall feel, with a tense pulse and enough low-end to make the songs hit like dispatches from the darker side of the dance. Alkaline’s “State A Emergency” is the obvious anchor, riding the riddim with that cold, clipped delivery he’s built a lane on, while Dre Santaana turns “Toe Tag” into a sharper, street-level cut and Sashie Cool and Star Captyn keep the mood grimy with “Dirt” and “Dark And Proud. ” Tru Ambassador Entertainment had already been circling the trap-dancehall edge by this point, and this 2019 set fits right into the era when hard, minimalist riddims and terse, aggressive vocals were shaping the sound of the genre.
