In the late-’70s Kingston orbit, Mean Girl kept moving between labels, and that churn is part of the charm here: the same sturdy riddim turns up under Studio One, Joe Gibbs and Black Solidarity, with Junior Byles’ “Heart And Soul” giving it that dusky, rootsy ache while Josey Wales snaps it into a tougher dancehall angle. Ben Bow’s “Mama Lulu” hangs closer to the foundation sound, so you get a real sense of how the tune was reshaped across scenes and years.
