MAD PUNANY RIDDIM produced by JAMMY’S RECORDS 1993
Mad Punany Overview
In 1993, the Mad Punany Riddim brought a new energy to dancehall. The journey started at JAMMY'S RECORDS, a label known for shaping the sound of Jamaican music since the 1980s. Run by King Jammy, the studio became famous for digital riddims and helped launch the careers of many dancehall stars. The riddim itself was built for the dancefloor, with deep bass and sharp snares. Producers at JAMMY'S RECORDS created a sound that DJs wanted to play again and again. Soon, top artists were ready to voice their own versions. Bounty Killer stood out with two tracks: "Glamity Gumsion" and "New Gun." Already known for his powerful lyrics, Bounty Killer would go on to win the MOBO Award for Best International Reggae Act in 2002. Dawya Ranks joined the lineup with "Request," while Galaxy P dropped "Multiply By Sex." Galaxy P is remembered for his hit "Bicycle," which became popular in the late 1990s. Original African added his style to the riddim with "Pop It Off," and Risto Benjie gave fans "Punany John Crow." Each artist brought their own flavor, making the riddim a favorite in clubs and dancehalls. The Mad Punany Riddim captured the sound of 1993 dancehall. Its journey from the studio to the dancefloor made it a classic that DJs couldn’t stop spinning.
