Jump Out Riddim – Big Bout Ya Records

Landing in late-2018 from Big Bout Ya Records, Jump Out Riddim feels like a little time capsule from that raw, yard-style dancehall pocket where the drums hit hard and the hooks come quick. Carl Meeks opens the set with “Mash Up the Dance, ” and from there the energy stays tough through Reggie Stepper, General TK, Little Twitch and General Pecos, whose “Man Like Me” gives the riddim one of its sharper turns. Big Bout Ya keeps the instrumental lean and punchy, with just enough space for the voices to cut through, and the whole thing runs like a proper sound-system selection at just over half an hour. Even the closing instrumental has a grimy, ready-for-the-party feel, which seems to be exactly the point.
