Hidden Files Riddim – Rockers Mix And Dr Zed

By May 2014, Rockers Mix and Dr Zed had already put out a string of Zimbabwe-rooted riddims, and Hidden Files sits neatly in that run as a nine-track reggae set with mostly local voices and a plain instrumental cut at the end. The production has that clipped, dub-wise feel you’d expect from the pair: skanking guitar accents, a steady one-drop pulse, and bass that stays rounded rather than oversized, leaving the singers plenty of room. Benny B turns up twice, first on “Musandidaro” and again alongside Sceptre on “Pure and True, ” while Heavy Gun’s “Another Chance” and J-Styelz’s “Rest In Peace (R-I-P)” lean into the reflective side of the project. It all moves at a mid-tempo pace, with the rhythm section doing the quiet work and the vocals carrying the weight.
