Back in 2010, dancehall was still full of sharp-edged, streetwise one-riddim projects, and Hell Chappa Riddim fits that moment with a lean four-track setup and a name that already sets the tone. The cut to hear first is Tugg Ras’ “Buss Di Chrome, ” which leans into the hard, gun-tinged energy the title promises, while Essplicit’s “Defend War” comes at it from a more defiant angle. Kolumbo’s “Mobay’S Finest” gives the package a local stamp, and with Tugg Ras doubling up on “Roll Up, ” the riddim keeps circling the same gritty lane without wasting time.
