Hassle Mi Number Riddim finds Mideya in that late-’90s ragga pocket where the groove is lean, rude, and built for sound system play, with just two cuts carrying the whole thing: Buddha Singh’s heartfelt “Mama We Love You” and Top Cat’s title tune, which gives the riddim its name and its rougher edge. Top Cat is the better-known voice here, and his cut hangs right in the pocket with the spare, no-frills production, while Buddha Singh’s track pulls a warmer note against the same stripped-back bounce. The release is a small one — just two tracks — but it captures the kind of compact dancehall issue that could still move a dance in 1998.
