Shockwave Productions keeps its Barbados soca run moving with Gooseberry Riddim, a 2025 release that arrived as a six-cut EP with an instrumental tucked at the end. The package lines up Jus Smoove, Timmy, SugahRhe, Freshie, and a pairing of Shadia and Faith Callender, which gives the riddim a strong Bajan core and a nice spread of voices across the island’s current soca landscape. Shockwave has spent the past few years putting out a steady stream of carnival-ready projects, including So and So Riddim, Front Page Riddim, Duck Pond Riddim, Nutcake Riddim, and earlier sets like Friendly Ghost and Brown Sugar, so Gooseberry fits into a catalogue that has been steadily building toward Crop Over and road-music energy.

The riddim itself moves with the kind of brisk, forward-pressing pulse that works on the road and in fetes. It feels like a Barbados-flavoured soca cut first and foremost, bright and percussive, with enough room in the arrangement for the vocals to stay front and center. SugahRhe brings one of the more recognizable names on the project. She has been firmly rooted in Barbados soca for years and has built a profile around energetic, melodic carnival music. Faith Callender is another important voice here; she has long been one of Barbados’ more versatile female soca performers, with work that moves comfortably between power, melody, and performance-driven party music. Their team-up on Shake It is the cut that feels most immediately designed for a crowd.

Timmy’s Steady and Jus Smoove’s Inside Ah Dat sit in the pocket you want from a good riddim release: chantable titles, direct hooks, and the sort of structure that gives DJs something useful in a set.
