Krysis Muzik and Koolkidd Production weren’t chasing polish here so much as pressure: Global Bounce Riddim is a lean 2011 dancehall set that leaves plenty of room for the voices to cut through. Shawn Storm and Black Star’s “Mad Rass Song” and Sikka Rymes’ “Nuh Matter We” set the tone early, while Goddesta and Ryan Mark keep the energy in that same militant pocket. The riddim itself has a clipped, springy motion, with a heavy low end and a bounce in the drum pattern that keeps the whole thing moving without getting busy. Even the more devotional turns, like Jahdai’s “Jesus Name” and Goddy Goddy’s “Devil Is A Liar, ” ride the same upright, mid-tempo groove, and that steady bassline is really what holds the project together.
