Full Time’s Freedom Ball Riddim sits a little apart from the label’s usual output in that it leans on a compact, three-artist vocal set rather than a sprawling cast, which gives the 2002 cut a tidy, archival feel. Anthony B’s “Aint No Love, ” Junior Reid’s “Got To Know Yourself, ” and Luciano’s “Repatriation” all ride the same restrained reggae framework, with the version tucked in as “Freedom Ball” to show off the bare riddim on its own. The production keeps to a steady one-drop pulse, unhurried and uncluttered, with the bass carrying most of the weight while the guitar chop and drums stay light around it. Luciano’s cut feels the most searching, but the whole set stays locked to the same mid-tempo groove and that deep, rounded bassline.
