Eastbound Riddim – Kaeczar Music Group

Kaeczar Music Group’s Eastbound Riddim landed in early 2014 as a tight six-track juggling with Konshens front and centre, his “Weed On Me” giving the project its most recognisable cut. The riddim moves in a clean, digital-reggae direction rather than anything overly rootsy, with a clipped drum pattern, warm low end and a bright, forward pulse that leaves plenty of room for the voices. Erup’s “Missing You” and Adeeno’s “No Matter The Signs” sit nicely alongside Cyba’s prayerful, hard-edged “Only God Can Judge Me, ” while Don’T Play and Gal-X keep the set moving without crowding the arrangement. It’s a compact release, co-produced by Kevin Stewart and Leighton Williams, and the whole thing stays locked to that mid-tempo bounce and rolling bassline that carry the singers straight through.
