Drop Di Bass Records keeps Di Reggae Riddim rooted in the classic one-riddim tradition, with veteran voices doing most of the heavy lifting. Sanchez opens with “Called Me” in that smooth, plaintive style he’s carried for years, while Mykal Rose’s “Help the Woman” pushes the set a little deeper with his harder-edged delivery; Wayne Wade pairing with U Brown on “Far Away” adds another nice old-school touch. The rest of the lineup leans into straight-ahead roots and uplift, from Diligence’s “Reggae Music Rocking My Bone” to Harry Toddler’s “Dem Time Soon Come, ” and the instrumental cut from Freddie Kruger closes it out neatly. Released on February 14, 2021, the compilation also folds in a tidy little moment from Jermain Michael on “National Culture. ”
