Come Back Riddim finds Dj Shil in familiar territory for the modern Dominica-Caribbean circuit: fast-moving, party-ready soca energy with a raw, street-level bounce rather than a glossy, radio-polished sheen. Dj Shil has already been moving as an artist and collaborator across the scene, with releases like Work That Bumpa, You Too Bamsi and Text Me under his name, and his footprint has been tied to Dominica’s bouyon and soca ecosystem for years. In that same lane, he has been identified among the producers helping push the island’s indigenous sound forward.

The riddim’s strongest pull is the mix of voices it draws from different corners of the region. Starsha is the most familiar name to Dominican listeners, a reigning soca figure from Layou who has also built real weight in bouyon and crossover Caribbean work. Freddy, Kenty, Zwady, Poyzin, Bilix and Stinger Nettle widen the frame, giving the project a regional feel instead of keeping it local only. Bilix brings Guadeloupean credentials and a history of soca-bouyon crossover success, while Stinger Nettle has remained active in Vincy soca circles. Zwady, meanwhile, has been part of the Dominican bouyon-soca conversation for a while, and his presence helps anchor the release in the island’s current sound.

As a project, Come Back Riddim moves with a brisk, percussive pulse and the kind of open-ended groove made for DJs to juggle across multiple voices. The songs circle familiar carnival themes: longing, desire, relationship pressure, confidence and emotional fallout. Starsha’s Miss Me and Freddy’s Come Back are the clearest hooks on paper, while Love Alone, Cry Blood and Happiest Life suggest the emotional spread that keeps a riddim from becoming one-note. Talk About That and Follow Me add more movement to the set, and the fact that the release holds together across seven cuts says a lot about how well Dj Shil has mapped the rhythm for different vocal styles.
