Cockroach Riddim – Reble World Records

Reble World Records keeps this one on the harder side of 2013 dancehall, with a compact eight-track juggling that leans into the raw, rude energy the label was building its name on. Delly Ranx gets the biggest spotlight here, cutting both clean and raw versions of “Great Inna Bed, ” while Sizzla’s “Pump Up (Remix)” does the same and gives the set a proper heavyweight anchor. Knock Shizzle’s “Anything Tess” and Peppery’s “Defend Wi Self” keep the pace jagged and direct, with Ayani’s “Wine and Balance” bringing a more playful, dance-floor tilt into the mix. The riddim also turned up on Reble World’s later compilations, which says a lot about how much life they squeezed out of it. 2013 was a busy year for the label, and Cockroach sat neatly in that run of straight-up sound system dancehall.
