BLITZ RIDDIM (SOCA) – SMASH 2013

Smash’s Blitz Riddim came through in 2013 with a sharp, high-voltage soca frame that was inspired by EDM and power soca, and you can hear that restless energy in the way the four cuts keep the pace moving without losing the carnival pulse. Jamesy P opens with “Trouble, ” Silvah pushes the momentum on “Bad and Ready, ” and Teddy Rhymez comes in with the cheeky, crowd-ready “How Yuh Doin Dat, ” but the project’s centre of gravity is probably Skinny Fabulous’ “Fyah Anthem, ” the kind of hard-charging tune that locks the riddim into the road-march lane. Released under Smash Productions, the set is compact at just four tracks, but it’s got enough bite to feel like a proper statement rather than a throwaway seasonal drop.
