Bbq Riddim (2021) – Warrior Sound Music

Warrior Sound Music’s BBQ Riddim landed in October 2021 as a straight dancehall juggling with a rough, street-first edge and a fast, pressure-cooker pulse. The set runs 21 minutes and closes with the instrumental, which leaves the rhythm itself front and center rather than hiding it behind any one artist. The tempo sits in the high-energy zone, and the overall feel is grimy, percussive and built for sound system play.

Warrior Sound is a German-rooted dancehall and reggae outfit that moved into production during the pandemic, and BBQ Riddim sits comfortably in that phase of their catalogue: a self-made project with their name stamped on both the production and the release. The mix of cuts is broad in style but unified by the same hard, driving backdrop.

The lineup is anchored by veteran voices and sharper younger cuts. Chuck Fenda brings the militant bark on “Dem Ah Dawg, ” while Delly Ranx’s “Bang Dem” keeps the energy blunt and direct. Badda General with The Writer on “John Wick” gives the riddim one of its most pointed titles, and Bay-C with Angel Doolas on “Bruk Buddy” adds another heavyweight combination. Noah Powa’s “Out of Service” gives the project one of its cleanest crossover moments, and Million Styles with Suku Ward on “So High” opens the door to a more melodic, uplifted tone. Skarra Mucci’s “Life” broadens the range again, and the instrumental lets the riddim breathe at the end.

What makes the release work is the balance between aggression and replay value. It sounds like a juggling meant for selectors who want something heavy, but still flexible enough for different voices and different angles. �
