AUNTIE RIDDIM produced by BLACK SCORPIO – 2000
Auntie Overview
In the year 2000, dancehall was all about energy and attitude. The bashment flow was everywhere, filling clubs and street parties with heavy bass and catchy hooks. It was a time when riddims ruled, and one of the most memorable was the Auntie Riddim. This beat captured the lively spirit of the era and had dancers moving all night. Behind this riddim was the influential producer BLACK SCORPIO. Known for his long history in Jamaican music, BLACK SCORPIO started the Black Scorpio label in the late 1970s. He helped launch the careers of many stars and was famous for his unique singjay style. His productions often mixed smooth vocals with hard-hitting rhythms, and the Auntie Riddim was no exception. The artists on this riddim brought their own flavor. Beenie Man, with his song "Badda Than The Rest," was already a dancehall giant. Known as the "King of Dancehall," Beenie Man had won the 2000 MOBO Award for Best International Reggae Act. Capleton delivered two versions of "Somebody" (Radio Mix and Raw Mix), showing his fiery style. Admiral Bailey, another veteran, added "Mouth Clean," reminding fans of his big 1980s hits like "Big Belly Man." Other voices made the riddim stand out. Squidly gave us "Gi Whey Di Thing," while Shaka Pow dropped "Rooster." Xytment Gang asked "What Would You Do," and Ward21 Renegade Pete Foster closed things out with "Auntie." Each track showed a different side of dancehall.
