Richie Stephens
Richard Stephenson, born on 5 December 1966 in Savanna-la-Mar, Jamaica, is a singer, producer, songwriter, dancehall, RnB and reggae artist. He was a Soul II Soul member in the early 90s. Before having his own label, Pot Of Gold Records, he had once recorded for VP Records as well as Motown. “Winner”, “Slop Dem” and “Bus the Place” are some of the very 1st dancehall singles he did. He made some collaborative smashing hits like “Legacy” in 1993 and “Come Give Me Your Love” in 1997which he did with Mad Cobra and General Degree respectively. Since producing his own album Winner in 1998 with Donovan Germain, Frenchie, and Danny Brownie and had it released by Greensleeves, Stephenson’s focus was on Christian music. Stephenson had become an integral part of the community and was adding to social, urban, and recreational activities in and around the area of Westmoreland that he was awarded the Jamaican Governor-General’s Achievement in 2006. 2011 started off gloomy and depressing for Stephenson because he lost his adopted son, Demar Graham, who passed by the stage name Copper Cat. He was shot and slaughtered outside his home in Kingston. May 2012, he released God Is On My Side and November 2012 he made a collaboration with Gentleman. Electronic Dance Music increased popularity in Jamaica in 2014 and Stephenson decided to make a new riddim called Skatech which combined EDM and Jamaican ska, a classic music genre from Jamaica. In 2015, he did music projects with Ska National Band from Italy and proceeded to work on a new album in 2016 which was released in 2017 titled Luv-a-Dub Style. In 2018, he released at least 4 albums such as Root Of The Music and All The Way To The Top, just to mention a few. On 20 September 2019, Jamaican Flava was released and was a Pot Of Gold Production too. The artist has proved himself to be a superstar of note so far.
