Ardent Riddim – Penthouse Records

Ardent Riddim - Penthouse Records

Ardent Release Details

Dusky, mid-tempo dancehall with a clean digital edge and enough room for the deejays to stretch out is what Ardent Riddim feels like, even before you clock the Penthouse tag. Tony Rebel’s “Creater” sets the tone with that conscious-leaning delivery he was sharpening around this period, while Buju Banton and Terry Ganzie both bring the kind of sharp, early-’90s confidence that made Penthouse sessions feel so alive. General Degree’s “People” and Galaxy P’s “Woman Get Wicked” keep the energy lighter and more playful, but the whole set sits in that sturdy Penthouse lane Donovan Germain was carving in the early ’90s: polished, radio-ready, and rooted in the tougher dancehall pulse of the time. Coming just before Penthouse’s later run of heavily documented riddims, Ardent feels like one of the label’s key early templates.
