3rd Degree Riddim (2008) – Black Mangena Records

Black Mangena’s 3rd Degree Riddim rides a taut, mid-tempo dancehall groove with a sly, heat-on-the-back-of-the-neck feel, the sort of rhythm that leaves room for both flirtation and straight shelling down the place. Junior Kelly opens things with the sweet-but-firm Mi Pretty Little, Sizzla turns up the pressure on Sexual Appeal, and Anthony B keeps the rude-boy edge alive on Simple Sumting, while Vybz Kartel’s Smoke Everyday and Kid Kurupt’s Mi No Rampy push the set deeper into street-level territory. Lukie D and Daddy Gong add more color around the edges, so the whole thing plays like a tidy snapshot of late-2000s dancehall, when riddims were often leaner, tougher, and built to carry a handful of strong voices rather than chase overworked polish.
