PENTHOUSE RECORDS is a key name in reggae music. Founded by Donovan Germain in 1987, the label quickly became known for its high-quality productions and work with top Jamaican artists. By the early 1990s, PENTHOUSE RECORDS helped shape the sound of modern reggae and dancehall, bringing together both new and established talents. In 1992, the label released the Brinks Riddim, a roots instrumental that echoed through sound system nights. This riddim stood out because of its warm tones and collaborative style. Three artists made their mark on this project: Degree, Tony Rebel, and Brinks. Degree is known for his energetic delivery. His song "Chatty Chatty" on this riddim showed his lyrical skill and spiritual style. Tony Rebel is also well known for his hit "Fresh Vegetable" and for founding Rebel Salute, one of Jamaica’s biggest reggae festivals. Brinks contributed the instrumental "Version," highlighting the roots sound that made the riddim memorable.
