Vybz Kartel released his latest track Run Dancehall alongside recently re-converted Muslim, Lisa Mercedez. The track comes amidst the public dancehall feud involving the Worl’Boss, Jamiel, Alkaline and Intence. Lisa handles the chorus on this Jermaine Baker production which is a first with Vybz for the producer on his JB Productions label. Mercedez sings;
“Di WorlBoss cya stall
Yo a Addi a d King and him a run Dancehall
Addi a d King and him a run Dancehall
Addi a d King and him a run Dancehall”
I am not too sure what the Muslim community in Lisa’s area will think about the song. She recently received flack for her last release Shahada, for including a prayer from the Quran. She has since apologised for the video and removed it from circulation after receiving death threats. For her sake, I hope she doesn’t feature in the video if Vybz decides to make one. Islam is very judgemental and I am certain they will not approve of Vybz Kartel’s personae and lifestyle. I still wonder how long Lisa is going to put up with the dancehall genre if she continues on her Islamic path.
This is Kartel and Lisa’s second collaboration this year following the release of Real Love last month. Mercedez will also feature on Kartel’s highly anticipated album Dons and Divas, poised for release later in the year. The track entitled WorlBoss will be one of many collaborations on an album that also features artists including Spice, Squash and Teejay. Vybz left room for his sons Likkle Addi and Likkle Vybz as well who seem to be on a hot streak following their recent songs.
Business as usual for Vybz as he continues to run dancehall. The hits speak for themselves and I find it strange that the likes of Alkaline continue to deny it proudly.
