It’s one thing to overstay on a visa for a day or two, due to missing a connecting flight or overstaying due to transposing dates, eg mistaking 21 instead of 12. However, dancehall’s very own Andre Whittaker, popularly known as Squash has been detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Florida, USA.
Squash is being held at Krome North Service Processing Center in Miami, Florida and it is rumored the artist has overstayed a work visa. Squash who has been residing in Miami since 2021 may have a lot to answer to border control based on his eligibility in the country. This is clearly not a case of missed flights or overstaying by a week or two or the arrest would not have been effected. Right?
Squash is no stranger to detention as the artist was first detained in 2018 in his home country Jamaica, under a State Of Emergency (SOE) sweep in St. James due to increased crime and violence in the parish. The artist was detained for 5 months and then released without a charge. This prompted the artist to turn his back on the island moving to Miami after.
“You see me now, me is not a violent man, people out there might see 6ixx boss and have me as violent, but I am a jovial person, me loving and kind, fun, mi like happiness, me nuh like sadness,” Squash told Winford Williams after he relocated the country.
