Before going any further, the headline may need clarification as this is not a direct comparison of America’s Miley Cyrus and Jamaica’s rising young talent Khalia. Khalia released her own reggae cover of Miley’s chart-topping track Flowers on Friday 21 April 2023. The original track from Miley was released in January 2023 and has enjoyed much global success peaking at number 1 on the US and UK Billboard Charts. It earned 96 million streams in its first week on Spotify, breaking Adele’s Easy on Me record of 85 million.
Khalia’s cover was produced and released by Silly Walks Discotheque and looks to garner the same kind of traction as the original. In a press release Khalia went on to comment about the original saying;
“I adore the song and it speaks to my personal experience of once constantly seeking outside validation before realising that the only love and validation a person needs is from oneself.”
