2019 saw the steady rise of 4th Genna artist Govana with notable tracks like ‘Gal Clown’, ‘Thief’ and ‘Champ. He also had noteworthy collaborations with Tarrus Riley and Koffee in ‘Unanswered’ and the ‘Rapture remix’ respectively. His industry and creativeness have finally culminated, being showcased in his maiden album Humans and Monsters Are Not The Same (HAMANTS). The album currently number 2 on the Itunes reggae album chart is going toe to toe with dancehall legend Vybz Kartel’s ‘To Tanesha‘ album.
His creative genius was illustrated in his latest jam ‘HAMANTS Convo‘. Almost on R Kelly ‘Trapped in the Closet levels’. The video tells the story of a cheating spouse in a comical way. It addresses gender based violence issues leaving the audience with a positive message. Basically Govana calls up his girl Keisha, (who is cheating on her husband Joe with the DJ) but unfortunately speaks to her husband instead revealing their illicit affair.
Tracks[/embed] like this showcase a persons raw talent and sheds light on his creative artwork. He manages to stay relevant tapping into the pertinent issues we deal with on a daily basis. The track has been received well by his fans and the general dancehall community. Some fans went onto ask, “When last has dancehall been this current?â€
To be fair, it’s an exaggeration as you cannot take people like Vybz and Popcaan for granted. Nevertheless, Govi also does well with other album tracks like ‘Believe Me‘ and ‘Impossible‘.
Govana whose government name is Romeo Nelson is one to look out for this year and the foreseeable future. If you overlooked him in 2019 ignorance is no excuse this 2020. He has proven to be able to dine at top table and you cannot help but think he can only get better. Be sure to give his album a chance as it will leave you wanting more.
