Find Of The Week: Stephen Marley Is An Old Soul

This week’s edition of Find Of The Week is not necessarily a new track as it was released in April 2023. However, it deserves special mention as I had previously overlooked it. Old Soul is a reggae ballad released by Stephen Marley and is the initial taste of Stephen Marley’s new studio project, due for release later this year.

Old Soul is definitely a shoo-in on any reggae playlist this year. Stephen Marley hits the spot on this insightful jam that will have any reggae fan brooding. The track was released via Tuff Gong Worldwide /UMe/Ghetto Youths International and you can almost hear Bob Marley singing through his son Stephen.

Stephen Marley - Old Soul (Official Lyric Video)

If[/embed] the upcoming tracks are anywhere near as good as Old Soul we are definitely in for a treat. Stephen enjoyed success from his previous album, Revelation Pt. 2 – The Fruit of Life, which reached No.1 on Billboard’s US reggae chart in 2016, as did its predecessors Mind Control (2007), Mind Control Acoustic (2008), and Revelation Pt. 1 – The Root of Life (2011).

Stephen Marley is an eight-time Grammy winner as an artist as well as a producer so he is no stranger to delivering. Following in his father’s footsteps as the 2nd born, Stephen Marley punches in the same class as brothers Damian and Ziggy and is arguably the better musician. However, I may find strong resistance from Damian Jr Gong fans.

Giving it 5 stars I highly recommend having a listen to Old Soul and the lyric video doing its rounds on Youtube may well be the official video as it shows retrospectively-themed photos from the Marley family archives. Old Soul is a strong contender for reggae song of the year and is one not to miss out on.
