Bounty Killer Voices Concerns On Night Life

bounty killer voices concerns on night life

Bounty Killer made his concerns clear about his sentiments on the Jamaican government’s tactics in curbing crowd violence, noise, rowdiness and the pending amendment of Jamaica’s Noise Abatement Act.

The Jamaican entertainment culture is well documented. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realise that it is riddled with flaws having negative effects on society. Not having all the nitty gritties at my fingertips but one can see there have been developments in party curfews and laws surrounding language and profanities.

Bounty chimed in with some remedies regarding establishing more ‘entertainment zones’ in and around Corporate Areas. Identifying zones where people can party all night long without affecting others was his solution.

“I am not gonna be a loggerhead thru mi a musician and mi love music I a gwaan like oh, mi fi outta road a disturb people and traffic congestion when school fi go and work. Wi fi have wi area weh wi can go do all wi likkle suppm and have wi fun. So di govament supposed fi fix dat,” he said.

With valid points, it does make a bit of sense what Bounty is saying. When the volume levels are disturbing citizens in general then there is a problem that needs to be addressed. But is creating zones where people can go nuts unchecked the solution?

“When the music is in commercial areas like Uptown Mondays, I don’t think that should be trouble. When the music is in a residential area and it disturbing people who want to get rest, I have to bear in mind that it’s the peoples right. But when you have like a Mas Camp and dem suppm deh now, like a Footloose and you know seh big people come out to have little fun, that’s unfair,” he said.

Night life is an important factor in most cities. The economy continues to thrive even though most businesses are closed. The management of this night life is a delicate issue. The dancehall legend did point out that government’s handling of curfews was crucial.

Bounty is genuinely concerned about his city but his angle is coming from an entertainers’ point of view. Seems very simplistic and subjective though. There are other variables which he has not considered like town planning and creating cesspools of debauchery at these zones.

There is a real problem in Kingston and it’s good to see that something is being done about it. Lets see how things pan out in the debate and how the amendments are done.
