It’s common practice in dancehall to claim the crown of ‘King of Dancehall’ when you have a string of chart topping tracks. Masicka is the latest artist to claim the much coveted title. For his birthday the dancehall star posted a video on his instagram promoting his birthday party in Canada. He captioned it saying “Roll out and celebrate with the new King of dancehall. It is a pointless exercise to get into the argument so I will just get straight into talking about his music. Masicka has had mild success in 2019 with tracks like ‘Image‘ and ‘Born Winner‘. His latest track ‘Man Fi The Mission’ is blowing up the airwaves with 30k views in just 2 hours on Youtube.
The youngster is on a real mission on becoming a relevant artist in the game. The one thing he has going for him is that he is only 19 years old. His career is still in its infancy stage and he has a long way to go. His start is admirable and his latest track ‘Man Fi The Mission’ showcases his talent.
Other notable tracks in 2019 are ‘Blessing‘ which had a saucy video getting him the recognition he wanted on Tribaco Riddim. ‘Image‘ also got a lot of traction and showcased his versatile lyrical prowess. Released in September the track managed to get over 1.5 million views on Youtube and that was just a lyrics video. The Portmore teenager also featured on Still A Live Riddim making a video for ‘King Inna Earth‘. The poignant video made you really listen to what he had to say and it probably prompted his manager Corey Todd to make the bold claim that he was the future King of dancehall.
Masicka also featured on a gritty track with Bounty Killer in ‘Diplomat‘ last month. The guy is definitely on the right track. I just hope he manages to keep his feet firmly on the ground. He still has a long way to go but so far so good.
