Rygin King just dropped his latest music video for his summer hit ‘One Time’. Following Masicka’s controversial lesbian video on the same Tribaco Riddim, Rygin has chosen to keep it simple in showing off another pool party/beach video. Yes, another water themed party. Don’t mean to single out or hate on Rygin, but isn’t the pool party/beach scene played out this summer? Nothing wrong with showing off a pool party video with women in bikinis twerking all over the place. Who doesn’t want to see that right? But that’s been the theme for the last two months. Everyone is doing it! Its summertime on an island, people get it. And when you leave the studio after completing a party jam you want a video to show the ultimate party. The pool or beach scene makes sense. But presently it is now lame. Where is the originality?
The pool party video has been shown off this summer by Vybz Kartel in both ‘Dave Rave’ and ‘Beat dem Bad’ with Squash. Konshens had his pool party in ‘Every Gyal Vibe’ with Jahvillani. Govana with ‘Cups Up’. Even Masicka had his lesbians making out in a grotto.
Taking nothing away from the track. It is still a jam and Rygin was one of the stand out artists on the riddim. But even if you play devil’s advocate, and say, it’s as a way to compete with competition in throwing a bigger jam on a better cut. Originality has to count for something right? Doesn’t mean every summer it’s for throwing the same themed party and openly smoking, like its cool. Or is it just a plea for a different kind of party vibe.
At the end of the day, Rygin is still a dancehall professional and there are a lot of revellers who would be urging him on to show more pool party vids. And love the video.
This is not a knock on the artist as everyone is doing it. Maybe it’s just a case of timing and Rygin caught the wave late.
