Dancehall fans can gear up for new music from fresh out-of-prison, Tommy Lee Sparta, as the artist was released from prison Thursday morning (23 March 2023). Having been sentenced on March 2021, to 3 years, for possession of an illegal gun and two years for possession of unlawful ammunition, Sparta whose real name is Leroy Russell Jr. is now a free man. Tommy Lee was reunited with his family and friends having departed Horizon Adult Remand Center in Kingston, Jamaica.
“Tommy Lee Sparta is a changed man. The fact that he was released ahead of the expected time, for his good behavior, tells so much. I have always expected nothing but good of him and, even before the whole ordeal, he was on a positive path and due to circumstances, beyond my knowledge or understanding, he ended up in that situation,” his producer said after his release.
A lot changed during his incarceration, however, Sparta enjoyed the release of Protocol with Skeng, which is his most successful song to date. Released in November 2021, the track racked up over 50 million views on YouTube’s streaming service.
