Throwback Thursday – Unfinished Business Riddim

Today I take you back to a very significant year in history since the turn of the 21 century. It had the very first Olympic games ever hosted by China. The opening ceremony set the tone and was a spectacle to behold.  It illustrated the great strides China had made over the years in terms of technology and architecture.

American swimmer Michael Phelps won a record eight gold medals and Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt was the first ever Olympian to set world records for the 100 meter, 200 meter and 4-by-100 meter relay sprints.

2008 also saw Barack Obama elected as the 44th U.S. President, marking him as the first ever black president in the US.

More significantly the year also had what has been heralded as the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression of 1929. Just like the Great Depression, the crisis started in the United States, and spread all over the globe.

Speaking about the music and more importantly dancehall 2008 was the year of Unfinished Business Riddim. Produced by TJ Records the riddim has gone on to be one of the top riddims of all time. It boasted a few unknown members who then kicked on to become superstars. Vybz Kartel and Mavado, still in the infancy of their careers  kicked on to become giants in the business. Serani received significant recognition for No Games which became an instant hit all over the world. Other artists on the riddim included Erupt, Buju Banton, Beenie Man, Assassin (Agent Sasko), Flippa Mafia, Lady Saw, Harry Toddler, Monsta Hemphigher, Bugle, Elephant Man and Demarco.

With[/embed] all that had happened and was happening in the world the riddim definitely suited the year. A definite classic to go along with the feats that happened in the year. If you had forgotten this riddim, be sure to give it extra attention as it is definitely worth your time.
