We all get those moments where we have a sudden rush of blood to the head, and do something outrageous or daring to please people. Candidly referred to as crowd pleasing. Unfortunately, there are opportunities where crowd pleasing goes wrong and the joke or action is not well received. Case in point, the Instagram post from dancehall’s Jahvillani where he puts a Wikipedia page showing off that he is worth $107 million.
Not only, is the source of information not credible (as Wikipedia is subject to manipulation) but is the amount in USD or Jamaican dollars? No one really knows but Jahvillani whose government name is Dujon Edwards. Dancehall artists are not known to have any bit of humility when it comes to their finances and spending, but revealing such information opens up Pandora’s box into the artists real income. And that is one thing Jahvillani was certainly not thinking about when he made the initial post. Or maybe it was just a dig at people, showing off just how much he is worth.
Could Jahvillani really be worth that much in USD? His last confirmed net-worth was US $1 million in 2018. Is he selling music at such a rate? Or is he performing on such a level to rake in that much? I cannot really say but time will tell. However, for his sake and general credibility I hope its not the Jamaican dollar value as that will come with a backlash from the dancehall community.
Jahvillani has had some success over the past months for tracks like Suede Clarks and Rubberband. But, I will not go as far as to say he is having a good year producing music. He seems to be touring well though, having to travel all around the world.
Let’s see how far his crowd pleasing antic will get him. He is the talk of the town now so dropping new music would be a welcome deflection.
