Reggae lovers have something to cheer about with the recent release of Ghetto Heaven Riddim. Not sure if this heaven is no different to regular heaven though. Produced by Maximum Sound, the riddim was released on the 25th of October. It features wholesome reggae artists including Naomi Cowan, Chris Martin, Duane Stephenson, Ginjah, Marcia Griffiths, Mr Vegas, The Kemist, Kumar, Gregory Morris, Dean Fraser and Jah’Lil.
The riddim takes you back as it has an old-school vibe. It is more suited to an older generation with senior players like Duane, Marcia and sax veteran Dean Fraser doing their thing. Mr Vegas stands out once more and newbies like Naomi and Jah’Lil are able to provide that old school vibe as well.
Stand out tracks include fans favorite Christopher Martin with ‘Baby Mama’. It’s hard for the reggae crooner to put a foot wrong and he does not disappoint. He pays tribute to the baby moms out there and I am sure this will bode well with women all round. Duane Stephenson’s song ‘Put Down The Knife’ preaches against violence. Anti-violence is a message that cannot be emphasised enough and this track is well aligned with the message.
Naomi Cowan continues to make strides in the reggae genre. She showcases her beautiful voice in her take on love in ‘One true Love’.
The Kemist and Marcia Griffiths roll back the years in their mature track, ‘Don’t Say Nothing’. The track epitomizes the riddim with that wholesome chilled vibe.
Ghetto Heaven is your Sunday chill riddim that will put you at ease. Following Mr Vegas’s message in ‘One More Draw’, lighting one up will definitely set the mood as you chill out. One for the reggae pioneers.
