This week’s Find of The Week sheds light on the dire situation in Sudan’s capital city Khartoum. With the song titled Khartoum, Sudanese-American rapper Bas collaborates with Nigeria’s Adekunle Gold.
The duo deliver a powerful track worth anyone’s time and the official visuals circulating on YouTube further illustrate what Bas will be rapping about his home country. Born to Sudanese parents, Bas grew up in France and moved to the United States at age 8. He delivers poignant bars in the track which raise awareness of what is happening in Sudan. The song will not change anything in the grand scheme of things, however, it raises awareness among the few who pay attention to the song. The situation over there will definitely not change overnight but it’s songs like this that will get the conversation going at least.
With[/embed] the growth of Afrobeats, we look forward to more conscious songs like Khartoum. Much like reggae. Music has a part to play in changing people’s perceptions about what is going on in Africa. And it’s refreshing to hear musicians like Bas making a stand and enlightening the world on what is really going on.
