Lil Durk and J. Cole’s summer hit, All My Life received a musical boost with the remix featuring Africa’s darling artist Burna Boy. The Nigerian Afrobeats artist brought his lyrical rapping skills to the already successful hip-hop tune. Similar to Ice Spice and Rema’s single (Pretty Girl) the only thing African in Lil Durk’s tune is Burna’s heritage as the track is not on the fusion tip.
It’s refreshing seeing my African kin trying out different things without necessarily bringing the Afrobeat to the track despite Burna Boy having mastered that art with numerous tracks in various genres. With All My Life having already peaked at no.2 on the US Billboard Hot 100, there is a huge chance this remix will be a huge success with Burna’s inclusion.
On working with J.Cole, Lil Durk explained to Apple Music’s Nadeska Alexis saying,
“It’s so crazy because we’d been talking for, like, two years, and he’d always be like, ‘Send me a record.’ And I’m like, ‘I gotta find the right record.’ I’m glad I waited two years. In my eyes, he a legend. If you have a chance to do a song with a legend, it be like, will you send them something just to send it, just to say you got one, or you gon’ make it stick?”
Whether Burna’s inclusion will add another dimension to the track is anyone’s guess, but publicity is publicity. It can only work in his favour seeing as the original was a hit.
