It’s funny how fame and a bank account can give you a false moral campus and make you have deluded opinions. This goes for Nigeria’s Afrobeats artist and I will repeat ‘Afrobeats’ artist Burna Boy. In a recent interview on Apple Music, Burna Boy had a dig at his fellow countrymen and other Afrobeats artists saying their music lacked substance and that they sing about nothing.
Speaking to Zane Lowe, Burna felt compelled that 90 % of Afrobeats artists had no real-life experiences to sing about.
“Half of them, [actually,] 90 percent of them, have almost no real-life experiences that they can understand,” he claimed in the discussion. “That’s why you hear most Nigerian music, African Music, or Afrobeats, as people call it, is mostly about nothing, literally nothing.”
“There is no substance to it like nobody is talking about anything. It’s just a great time, an amazing time,” Burna Boy added. “But at the end of the day, life isn’t an amazing time.”
