Andre Whittaker, born in 1992 in Salt Spring, Jamaica is a dancehall recording artist and a DJ. He grew up in a home with both parents and 5 brothers. For as long as he can remember, he would sing in the shower because singing came naturally to him. He started by giving lyrics to some of his friends when they went to a nearby recording studio after playing football. His style includes a bit of hip-hop, making him very unique in his delivery. He personally began recording in 2013 and in 2015 he made the singles “Try” and “Kill Dem Anytime.” The songs weren’t popular but later on, he did “6ix Boss” whilst he was being detained and the single became well-known in Kingston followed by “Money Fever.” He is the leader of the collective 6ix group which includes his close buddies, Daddy1 and Chronic Law. The latter 2 are very influential dancehall superstars in the dancehall genre. “Beat Dem Bad” and “Can’t Be The Same” are songs Squash has done with the legendary Vybz Kartel and the collaboration has caused Whittaker to become very popular. In May 2018, “Mek It Shake” music video was aired after the song had been released in 2017. His talent is seen even though the quantity and quality of music he has done in a very short space of time. He has done many music projects including collaborations and albums, their total being at least 30 projects between 2017-2020. There is a 14 track album that will be released on 6 June 2020 which is yet to be titled because Whittaker said that it’s personal. Some of the tracks were produced by Shabdon Records, Hempton Music, YG Records. , East Link Records, Wap Dem Records, Atto Matic Records, Sonovic, and Sky Bad Records also had a hand in the making of the songs. Squash has also indicated that his album tells of his personal journey in life with massive gratitude to his big brother G-man who has been a pillar of strength and encouragement. Definitely, his fans are multiplying as his talent remains relevant.
