Afro B continues to ride the Afro wave sound taking over the world in his new track, ‘Go Dance’ featuring dancehall’s stalwart Busy Signal. The London based artist made another noteworthy fusion track with Vybz Kartel earlier this year finding a way to fuse the two genres with the incarcerated deejay. ‘Shape Nice’ which also features Dre Skull received plaudits garnering over 3.9 million views on Youtube since its release in May.
Afro’B came to prominence in 2018 with his track ‘Joana’ which he dedicated to football star Didier Drogba. The birthday gesture was an instant hit, in turn grabbing peoples’ attention.
In his latest track ‘Go Dance’, Afro B has once again managed to strike a balance in his meshing of genres. The afrobeat/dancehall fusion produced your typical party hit. The catchy track will definitely do its rounds on the scene but its longevity is questionable. Why I say that is because it may struggle to find a concentrated audience. It feels like an afrobeats jam but at the same time can pass to be a dancehall track. For this reason it may struggle to convince purists and may have to settle for a smaller niche.
Nevertheless, it is still a good track that some people will appreciate. As I always emphasize I am a huge fan of collaborations like this. My love for dancehall and African heritage makes me a biased audience in this case. But, I do appreciate I am just part of a niche. I do look forward to more Afro B fusions in the dancehall genre. He has started off very well and can only get better.
Before signing off I also need to big up Busy Signal. He continues to shine this year and this credit is just another in what has been one of the best years in his career.
Look out for Afro B’s new album #Afrowave3 coming September 27 2019
