Empress Riddim produced in 1999 by Golden House / Jet Star is a unique hardcore ragga dancehall riddim. I first heard this riddim in high school, Form 1 year 2000 at Chaplin High School – hence the school’s logo/emblem on SoundCloud track below. It was the annual school sports day and the DJ played this particular riddim. I recall him replaying Vylmark’s version of When You’re In Love With A Beautiful Woman several times. The track seemed to trend after the school event. You could hear it in the hallways in the dormitory, particularly at Coghlan House…and am sure at Duthie House as well. Prefect’s would blaze this tune from their rooms. Our seniors in goose stepping fashion pranced around to it and obviously, this had the younger of us, gullible, loving it!
