vybz kartel co-convict kahira jones fate sealed

Kahira Jones, a co-convict with Vybz Kartel in the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams, was further sentenced to a total of 34 years in prison for the shooting of Chevallo Rodney in Waterford, Portmore St Cathrine in 2009. Kahira was sentenced to life imprisonment along with Vybz Kartel in 2014 for beating Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams to death.

Jones was sentenced by High Court Judge Lisa Palmer to 18 years in prison for wounding with intent and eight years each for illegal possession of firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

The eight-year sentences are to be served consecutively, but simultaneously with the 18-year sentence.

Mr Jones was found guilty of wounding with intent, illegal possession of firearm and illegal possession of ammunition in the Corporate Area Gun Court after the trial which proceeded under Section 31(D) of the Evidence Act.

The evidence provided by Prosecutor Hodine Williams led that on the morning of December 15, 2009, Chevallo Rodney was approached by Jones, who asked him for water before attacking him with a gun.

Rodney put up a fight, got shot twice, but managed to disarm Jones, who fled the scene leaving the weapon.

Rodney survived the 2009 shooting and gave a statement to the police, was then murdered two years ago at the same premises where he was shot by Jones.

The court also received evidence from investigating officer, Jason McKay, to whom the case was assigned.

Jones was on bail for shooting Rodney when he was implicated in the killing of ‘Lizard’ along with Adidja ‘Vybz Kartel’ Palmer, Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell and Andre St John.

All four men were convicted in April 2014 and handed mandatory life sentences.

After considering the facts and all that has happened in court what would be the social and political implications if Vybz Kartel and the other convicts’ appeal sets them free. Is society going to welcome them back with open arms.
