“What will the new world be like without a simple hug?” Is the pertinent question Tarrus Riley asks in his latest single Healing. The single precludes his post-COVID 19 lockdown LP with the same name.
Co-produced by Shane Brown, Dean Fraser and Tarrus Riley himself, Healing will be distributed via Zojak World Wide from the 10th of July 2020. It features a star-studded cast of marquis dancehall artists including Konshens, Teejay, Dexta Daps and Shenseea who offered her harmonising skills.
If there was ever a draft for artists who could pull off a pandemic anthem to galvanise the masses, Tarrus Riley would definitely be in my top 5 picks. Known for his use of the saxophone and powerful vocals. Tarrus Riley (also known as Omar Riley) has made a name for himself in reggae folklore for epic reggae songs which include Start A New and Herbs Promotion. Fittingly, the Bronx native has come up with yet another poignant cut to help make sense of these uncertain times.
Directly quoting Riley himself, “This project is about life itself. A soundtrack for our lives now, and maybe what is to be our lives.”
With a lot of self-reflection and an examination of racial discrimination. The album is inspired by recent events and the global lockdown brought about by the COVID 19 pandemic. Turns out this is the first Jamaican reggae album wholly written and produced during the lockdown. Assisted by genius recording techniques while being mindful of social distance practices. Tarrus and co. were able to put together an LP that should be cherished by reggae fans all-round, judging from the opening single.
Look out for Tarrus Riley’s single Healing which has set a good marker for his album to follow. The track along with its official video makes for a good post-pandemic anthem, coupled with introspective reflection guidelines.
