The true mark of an artist is being able to adjust vocals and music style to suit whatever scenario. For example acapella singing or when you give a rapper a random beat and expect them to freestyle to it with fresh lyrics while still sticking to the general rules of the rhythm and genre.  A good example of this would be Madonna and Rihanna. Rihanna started off her career on a dancehall tip (Pon de Replay) and then evolved into a global pop star capable of mixing it up with artists like Calvin Harris, Justin Timberlake and Eminem. When you look at Jamaica’s Shenyeng Queen, Shenseea, not only is she able to rap but she also provides unique vocals on various pop songs. So question is am I putting Shenseea in the same bracket as Madonna and Rihanna? And the answer is yes. She may not currently be on those lofty levels just yet, but, she is destined for it and more.
It’s a bold claim comparing the artists, however, when you look at the body of work Shenseea has so far and the tracks she is dropping you cannot help but pay attention to her. Signed to Interscope Records, Shenseea is the first Jamaican artist to sign with the American label. And she joins an illustrious list of artists on the label who include Eminem, Lady Gaga, Dr Dre, Selena Gomez and Maroon 5.
Born Chinsea Lee in Kingston Jamaica, Shenseea burst onto the scene in 2017 featuring on a track with Vybz Kartel (Loodi). She kicked on with tracks with Hip Hop’s Tyga (Blessed) and Christina Aguilera (Right Moves), which garnered a bigger international audience and she has not looked back. She went on to win Best Reggae Act at the 2021 MOBO Awards and her maiden album ALPHA earned her a nomination at the 64th Grammy Awards for Album of The Year.
Already[/embed] with numerous bangers this year, like Sean Paul and Gwen Stefani’s Light My Fire. Shenseea features with Charlie Puth and Calvin Harris on Obsessed.  With Calvin Harris’s album Funk Wav Bounces Vol 2 dubbed a ‘psychedelic journey’ by Billboard, the track showcases Shenseea’s beautiful vocals and her ability to adapt to Electropop/nu-disco.
Granted she doesn’t become like Lauren Hill with the drink, Shenseea’s career seems to be headed in the right direction. If you have been sleeping on her you need to get with the program. With the sex appeal thing going for her Shenseea is a serious player in the music business and I am very curious to see how far she gets. With aspirations of having her own shoe label Shenseea could have the next Fenty. Have a listen to her latest album ALPHA which will certainly give you a refreshing perspective on the Jamaican artist. Out with the likes of Madonna, Beyonce, Britney Spears and Rihanna and in with the multi talented Shengyen Boss that is Shenseea.
