Already on $400,000.00 bail, Jamaican songstress Sevana, has pleaded guilty to a death by dangerous driving charge, to the Westmoreland Circuit Court. Sentencing has been scheduled for November 17, and Sevana faces charges of up to 5 years including hard labor.
Born Anna Blake, the 30-year-old was involved in a car accident in May 2022, colliding into a Honda Fit traveling in the opposite direction. The accident caused the death of Ordia Cordiel, who had been on the passenger side(Honda Fit), and the driver and Sevana’s sister sustaining minor injuries.
We await sentencing but this is a sad day for reggae fans who follow the budding talent. Having had an insight into Sevana’s life through her music and media personae I can’t help but feel sorry for her and her family and friends. Sentencing will give us an indication of the level of negligence in causing the fatal accident. But I do feel for you, Anna. Nobody likes a ‘Captain Hindsight’ so I will save you the usual spew and let this one go.
With hit songs like Mango, Lowe Mi, and If Only You Knew, the airwaves will miss Sevana. Either way, Sevana has laid down a solid marker and I am sure it will hold out until she needs to resume. Having already been on a path of enlightenment, Sevana had amicably split from Protoje’s In.Digg.Nation Collective and label in April 2022, so I am confident the young talent will rise again. Sevana had this to say after her split.
“I’m never without company and support and In.Digg will remain my family. In this new season, I’m convinced that I need to move with a certain autonomy. I want to speak on my own behalf, negotiate my own terms and conditions, decide how licensing will work – all of that. I’ve learned this is the best way to do it. That’s just how it works.”
