Despite Santa Claus not being able to grant Vybz Kartel’s Christmas wish this year, it did not stop The Worl’Boss from wishing Jamaica and his fans a merry one. Incarcerated Vybz dropped his latest single ‘Beautiful Island’ in which he was able to send seasons greetings and best wishes for 2020 to Jamaicans.
It is reported the only thing the Teacher wanted this Christmas was to be released from prison. Vybz Kartel whose real name is Adija Palmer was sentenced to life in prison along with Shawn ‘Storm’ Campbell, Andre St John, and Kahira Jones for the 2011 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams. Following the murder trial in 2014, the convicts launched their appeal and still await the verdict. The painful wait has not dented the artists’ love and passion for music. Vybz has been able to make chart topping songs since his incarceration in 2012. His latest track Beautiful Island follows another release of his, ‘ADIADKING’ where he declares himself immortal.
Unlike Beautiful Island, ADIADKING is more of a gritty track with Vybz spitting fire lyrics. Both tracks illustrate the diversity in Kartel songs as they appeal to different styles. He cannot seem to put a foot wrong for his fans as both tracks have been received well. Die hards must feel Beautiful Island may appeal to the Jamaican courts urging them to give in to his release.
His[/embed] attorney Bert Samuels’ patience seems to be running thin 18 months on from his appeal. He argued that a number of factors prejudiced his clients right to a fair trial.
“It is now one year and six months since the court reserved, so my client anxiety is heightening. He is in high spirits and is hoping that he will not have to spend Christmas where he is, but will be able to rejoin his family,†Samuels said.
There is still time for Kartel’s wish though. Fingers crossed for Gazanation and all the Vybz fans. #freeworl’boss
