It’s business as usual on the violence front in West Jamaica following the shooting of dancehall singer Rygin King and his girlfriend.
The shooting took place at 3:15 pm(Sunday 28.06.2020) along Struie Main Road following a roadside skirmish where one of the vehicles in Rygin’s entourage collided with another motorist. As Rygin stepped out to assess the damage an unknown gunman pitched up in his vehicle, said his peace, then proceeded on opening fire at Rygin and his car.
Unfortunately, Rygin’s girlfriend Sashalee Blackwood succumbed to injuries from the attack and passed away.
The incident was confirmed by the Jamaican Constabulary Force. Furthermore, a senior officer proclaimed that “The persons involved were just passing through and never intended to stop in the parish had it not been for the accidentâ€.
It is reported that the dancehall artist was driving through Westmoreland from a funeral, with his girlfriend and two children when the attack happened. Fortunately, the children did not sustain any physical injuries but who knows the extent of psychological damage.
Fans can breathe a sigh of relief as reports from Savanna-la-Mar Hospital have it that he is in a stable condition following surgery.
Rygin King also known as Mathew Smith is known for hit songs such as How Me Grow, Tuff and 3ZN. He has received well wishes from other dancehall artists including Vybz Kartel, I-Octane and Shenseea.
“Don’t give up youth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All who believe in God send up a prayer fi Rygin King please!,†Kartel wrote.
A[/embed] very sad incident indeed for the 25-year-old. Condolences to the families of the deceased and we hope for a speedy recovery for the injured. Investigations are ongoing but the gunman is yet to be identified. Rumours are circulating as to the reason for the attack but I suspect its gang-related. It always is in Jamaica.
