Just like in dancehall. Reggae fans have been treated with top albums in the past few months and the top treatment continues with an upcoming edition. Last month Dre Island dropped his maiden album Now I Rise, followed by Lila Ike’s premier album The ExPerience. Signed to RCA Records. Protoje is poised to release his 6th project which is available for pre-ordering on the 6th of August 2020.
To mark this upcoming album, Protoje released his first single Same So along with its video. This is Protoje’s first release for over a year and the album follows his last successful album Matter of Time. After being in the game for several years now. Protoje has established himself as an accomplished reggae artist, peaking with a Best Reggae Album nomination in 2019.
Commenting on the album on his twitter account Protoje tweeted,
“You know when you’re making a fire and it starts with a flicker, but then you see it start catch then it burst into flames and you cannot take your eye off it? Yeh just like that.â€
It’s always reassuring when an artist reaffirms how good their work is. He remains humble enough by not overstepping in declaring it to be Grammy Award-worthy like a certain dancehall boss. Same So sets a good marker for what is to come and I expect a top album in the pipeline. Fellow artist Kabaka Pyramid also passed a comment on twitter showing his excitement about the album saying,
“Time to take over the airwaves again. Who ready?â€
2020[/embed] will be remembered as the year of COVID-19 but we cannot forget some of the quality music that has been released. Protoje’s group which includes Lila Ike and Sevana has come to the fore and shined and reggae fans should be excited for the future.
If you are not well versed on Protoje, whose real name is Oje Ken Ollivierre, be sure to check out his upcoming album. Same So is a good way to start in acquainting yourself with this newly crowned reggae prince.
