Way to end 2020 on a high. Agent Sasco formerly known as Assassin dropped his latest project Sasco vs Assassin. Hot from dropping Loco Riddim, Agent Sasco whose government name is Jeffery Campbell seems to be on a hot streak and can’t seem to put a foot wrong. The 5 track EP tells a story of his maturity from when he started in 2001 as Assassin to present-day Agent Sasco.
The album features dancehall stalwart in Sean Paul, Chronixx and Kranium. Sasco manages to incorporate a bit of afro-beats and soca in his tracks, showcasing his versatility as a Caribbean musician. His track with Sean Paul, Do Mi Thing was produced by Nigeria’s P2J and Brazilian Tropkillaz and has a strong Afro- Samba sound.
The combination with Chronixx works well again in Represent as they exchange bars to good effect, while Kranium croons all over No Stranger to Danger.
Sasco is not as prolific as most dancehall artists but you have to pay him his dues. The Somethings Gotta Give artiste is one of the island’s most underrated musicians. This is partly due to him not churning out bubble gum tracks all the time. However, it’s always a pleasure when you listen to what he has to offer. And I strongly recommend listening to his 5 track EP. His last EP, Hope River came in 2018 having mild success but he talked up his latest work indicating his constant evolution as an artist and we can all look forward to many more years with the Kingston native. He also had recent success with Loco Riddim which he produced so if we don’t hear him on the waves he is probably in the studio cooking up something.
