St Lucian dancehall artist Mon Cherie has come out on her Instagram accusing Vybz Kartel of giving her music to other artists like Renee 6:30. The artist claimed she had respect for the Worlboss but was disappointed on continually being let down as she continued to hear her music being sung by other artists. Mon Cherie had this to say on her Instagram.

“I don’t know if embarrassing is the word to use but everybody knows how much I love and adore Kartel and he just plays me over and over again. So I wrote a statement like I usually do when I want to address an important situation that’s going on in my life and my fans are always asking me when are you and Kartel gonna be doing new music, well this is it right here,” she began.

“Dear Vybz Kartel, you have been playing me since day one because friends don’t treat each other like this. I’ve noticed that some of my songs that I have poured my heart and soul into have found their way into the hands of other artists like Renee 6:30,” she said as she broke out into My Own World by Vybz Kartel ft. Likkle Addi & Renee 6:30 released in 2021.

“I respect their talent but it’s disheartening seeing my work given to someone else when I’ve dedicated so much to you and my craft. I invested my time, youth, and energy.”

“I’ve[/embed] always been by myself on my musical journey, Rihanna and Beyonce have Jay Z, Nicki Minaj has Young Money and I thought you had me. What have I ever done to you? I’m not sure. I realize that you favor these Jamaican singers a lot more obviously than anybody else… I’m not sure if it’s because I am from St. Lucia,” she continued.

My question is why does she continually keep sending demos? And to be fair, who is she sending the stuff to, seeing as the man is incarcerated? Could it be a case of his management team giving away her music? And how do we verify the authenticity of her claims as well? Or is this just attention-seeking behavior?

It’s a pity that the situation has got to this stage and it will be interesting whether Vybz Kartel responds to it. With too many variables and questions, Mon Cherie should find a way to protect herself. Despite the fact she clearly wants a stamp of approval from Kartel she must not forget that the man is a convicted murderer. His moral compass is a wee bit skewed if you ask me. But hey, that’s my opinion. And I will still say ‘Free Worl’Boss’ as she eloquently ends her voice note.
