Koffee Scoops Best Reggae Album – Grammys

koffee scoops best reggae album - grammys

19 year old reggae sensation Koffee made history last night at the 62nd staging of the annual Grammy awards at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Koffee won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album with her EP Rapture.

The usual veteran reggae musicians who normally walk away with the award were trumped by Koffee who has now broken that cycle and paves a new way for fresh talent and for other upcoming musicians. Born Mickayla Simpson, Koffee is the youngest and the only female to be nominated and awarded for the the prestigious award at the Grammys.

The trendsetter managed to beat off previous award nominees namely, Mass Manipulation for Steel Pulse, Julian Marley’s As I Am, The Final Battle: Sly & Robbie vs. Roots Radics from Sly & Robbie & Roots Radics and Third World’s More Work To Be Done.

Her acceptance speech included thanks to the producers and everyone who contributed to make Rapture what it is today. The 19 year old paid her respects to Julian Marley, Sly & Robbie & Roots Radics, Steel Pulse and Morgan Heritage. And she ended her speech with “This one is for Reggae. This one is for Jamaica.”

Koffee’s award solidifies and showcases that she is a force to be reckoned with. Through hard work and talent, true quality will ultimately shine. Numerous magazines and newspapers talked about Koffee all of last year as she continually made headlines. Koffee received several co-signs as well, including some from iconic figures like Jay-Z and Barack Obama. This award has put the final cap on things.

Congratulations to you Koffee and we look forward to another prosperous year from you. When is your next album coming out? Koffee is set to continue on the road with performances lined up for Coachella in April, Saint Kitts Music Festival and Viewtopia Music Fest. Clearly no rest for the ‘wicked’. Big up.
