It feels like Jahvillani is really obsessed with Clarks shoes or he has moments where he runs out of things to sing about. In 2008 Vybz Kartel, Popcaan and Gaza Slim made a catchy track called Clarks, singing about the desert boot. The track was a huge success putting Popcaan on the radar for his rapping skills. Last year Jahvillani followed suit and sang about the British shoe in Clarks Pan Foot. The track got peoples attention once again. It drew comparisons with the 2008 track managing to garner 3.5m views on Youtube’s streaming platform.
In[/embed] an earlier article, I spoke about the Jamaican obsession with the desert boot. I touched on the irony of it being the gangsters choice when it was designed for lawmen including soldiers in the British army during World War 1 and 2. I concluded that Vybz and Jahvillani needed to be thanked by the British company as they were acting as marketing agents for the manufacturer. Following that the shoe maker did contact Jahvillani thanking him for his efforts, hailing the track as the 2019 summer anthem.
As if Javillani was prompted. The company has not been performing well and had reported an £82 million loss in 2018. This was mainly due to the shift to online shopping which impacted negatively to the traditional retailer’s large overhead cost. The Sunday to Sunday deejay has had another crack at singing about the shoe. His latest track is Suede Clarks. Produced by Countree Hype Entertainment, the shoe anthem declares his unending love for the desert boot and Wallabee versions of Clarks footwear.
Is it a genuine obsession or is he trying to boost sales? Commission perhaps?
Either way we get the message mate. It is a quality shoe and we should all get a pair. I hope the shoe chapter is closed now. Lets focus on more pertinent issues which need addressing.
